Compare UK wedding insurance providers » What does Wedding Insurance cost?
Wedding insurance polices start from less than £30, typically for around £5000 of Cancellation Cover and can cost as much as £300 for around £70,000 of Cancellation cover. The amount of cover you need is easy to work out, just work out how much your Wedding will cost overall (considering every element and service including Wedding Venue, Caterer, Wedding Dress, Bridesmaid Dresses, Photographer, Wedding Cars, Flowers, Rings etc.) and find a policy that will cover you for that entire amount.
You will find looking around that the cost of similar levels of Wedding Insurance cover can vary greatly between providers. Many big high-street names will charge relatively high premiums for their services compared to other providers you maybe haven't heard of before. Don't be put off with choosing Wedding Insurance from a provider you haven't heard of. Just make sure that the company you choose is registered with and regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and you will be fine. In many cases you'll find that that the Wedding Insurance offered by one of the big high-street names is actually provided by one of the smaller providers you hadn't heard of before anyway.
The price of your Wedding Insurance policy is clearly important and will no doubt be the main driver of your decision of which policy to go with and rightly so, but don’t necessarily go for the cheapest option without looking at the others first! Check what is included with each particular Wedding Insurance policy, as levels of cover and what is covered will vary from insurer to insurer. Insurance policy documents are frankly not the most exciting reading, but reviewing the policy before (or once) you've bought it is time well spent. Remember, distance selling regulations enable you to cancel your policy and receive a refund should you decide that it doesn't suit you - just ensure that you do this within 14 days.
Make sure you pick the Wedding Insurance that’s right for you. Some policies may offer more cover for Wedding Rings, another for your Wedding Dress etc. make sure you choose the policy that provides all the cover you need and not just the one that's the cheapest. If you can’t see the level of Wedding Insurance cover you need just give that provider a call. More often than not they can put together a bespoke quote for you, if you need for example a particularly high level of cover or if you need them to consider some special circumstances.
Also make sure that the level of cover for each item covered by the Wedding Insurance policy covers the full cost of the item for your wedding.
Many insurers will not accept you, for example, covering half the cost of the Wedding Reception and claiming for half of it if something goes wrong.
In comparison to what you're spending on the whole Wedding, Wedding Insurance Cover costs very little and is a vital component for your big day. You'll never regret having it, you might regret not having it.
